He Shot Her Very Happily

When I first started researching there were not many newspapers that were digitized. When more newspapers were added to the newspapers.com website I subscribed. What I stumbled across was a story that no one in my family had heard of before. I found articles in dozens of newspapers that made headlines across the U.S. My great-grandfather had shot my great-grandmother. The reason behind the attack was the fact that she would not marry him. He shot her in the neck 4 times. Somehow not ending her life. She realized during her recovery that she really loved him. They ended up getting married while he was still being held in the jail. Afterward all charges were dropped against him. Legally your spouse can not be forced to testify against you. So I suspect that had something to do with the charges being dropped. The articles state that by great-grandfather turned the gun on himself, but those bullets failed to fire. If they had I would not be writing this article today. You can view my great-grandfather's profile by clicking here to read more of the articles I discovered.
